Butterfly Bush flower seed, otherwise known as Summer Lilac, is a butterfly-attracting aromatic bush that has narrow branches supporting lilac-like clusters of blossoms a foot or two in length, with side branches and blossoms. You might even attract a hummingbird. If the winter is hard enough, the plant can die back go the ground. If it doesn’t, each spring (prior to new growth) the bush should be trimmed to 10 inches. The plant will bloom on the new growth and will have fuller, larger blooms. Once established, the bush prefers a slightly moist to dry soil, and is drought tolerant. To keep the bush flowering, the flowers need to be dead headed once the color begins to fade.
